On 12 May 06, in the aftermath analysis of the recent Singapore General Election focussing on the novel role of the Internet in fostering political discussion and independent news coverage, pioneer gay activist Alex Au's Yawning Bread website was mentioned as the top "blog" reporting on opposition rallies and providing non-official commentary, an emergent phenomenon made possible by technology and labelled with the catchphrase of "citizen journalism".
It must be noted, however, that Au's website is not strictly a blog but a collection of articles dealing especially with Singaporean and gay culture and politics. Moreover, it had been attracting a wide readership long before the blogging phenomenon surfaced.
